2013 Scholarship Information


2013 Iron Workers Local #1 Scholarship Awards
Local #1 is now accepting applications for scholarships to be awarded in the year 2013. In 2012, fifty-six scholarships were presented to the winning recipients for four years of schooling. These awards are allocated in annual payments of $2,000.00, provided the recipient is a full time student and maintains a "C" average on a yearly basis. If your son or daughter is a high school senior and interested in applying for the scholarship, please contact the union hall for an application. The deadline for accepting completed applications with all required material is April 30, 2013.

The John H. Lyons Sr. Scholarship
Sons and daughters of ironworker members compete each year for six $5,000.00 awards, six $2,500.00 awards, and six $1,500.00 awards. Awards are renewable for three additional years provided recipient meets eligibility requirements. Requests for application forms are being accepted until January 31, 2013.

William A. Lee Scholarship Awards

The Chicago Federation of Labor is pleased to announce the 2013 William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship Awards.
The Chicago Federation of Labor will offer five (5) academic-based scholarships and five (5) random-drawing scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each to students graduating from an area high school. Students may apply in only one of the two categories. The period for submitting applications is January 1 through March 1. Please see the application for complete instructions.

Applications are available online www.chicagolabor.org/scholarship  To be eligible, the student or one of his or her parents must be a member of a local union affiliated with the Chicago Federation of Labor. All applications must be signed by one of the top two officers of the local union to which the student or his or her parent belongs. All additional requirements are listed on the application form, including criteria for judging the academic competition. Completed applications must be returned to the Chicago Federation of Labor, William A. Lee Memorial Scholarship Committee, 130 East Randolph Street, Suite 2600, Chicago, IL 60601. All applications must be postmarked by no later than March 1, 2013.

Tom Lee Scholarship Awards
Tom Lee spent 40-plus years as an ironworker and rigger of Local #136. This Scholarship is available for sons and daughters of members from Local #1, #63 and #136. More information can be found at www.tomandtessleebenefit.com. The submission deadline for applicants is February 1, 2013.
